As part of the SPT Insights, Strategy, and Analytics team, this Manager will work in a consultative manner with senior executives and cross-functional teams to deliver insights that inspire creative development, content strategy, and marketing. This role will be a key member of a team that are experts on the entertainment marketplace, commissioning trends, customer needs, and audience tastes. This Manager will elevate the voice of the consumer and provide strategic content insights that support Sony Pictures Television’s success in our unique role as an independent studio. Using secondary & syndicated data, primary research, ratings & consumption data and social listening, this Manager will support key SPT series throughout their lifecycles and will be responsible for actionable insights and strategies in supporting trend identification, landscape opportunity analysis, concept and pilot testing, content positioning, content promotion & launch / post launch analyses. This role will play a meaningful and visible role in guiding content creation, optimizing audience engagement, and making our content the best it can be. The Manager, Insights, Strategy & Analytics will report to the Director, Insights, Strategy & Analytics – Video Game Adaptations, Horror, & Action.
Responsibilities
The Manager will lead insights, strategy & analytics work around SPT Video Game Adaptations, Horror, & Action series. Working with the team/Director, the Manager will have a keen understanding of genre trends and opportunities – conducting qualitative and quantitative primary research studies and tracking series’ performance to optimize departmental development slates, understand landscape genre trends, and improve the sell-ability, marketing, and performance of pitches and current series.
Title/Brand Lead
- Embed with internal teams as the “face of research” on any research aspect of assigned titles
- Provide holistic insights that pull together primary, syndicated, social and performance data on title and synthesize into a cohesive story
- Produce and present insights deliverables on titles, including performance insight memos, franchise insights, etc.
- Lead title research including design, fieldwork, and execution of primary research studies including, but not limited to, IP evaluation, concept explorations, pilot testing, season diagnostics, etc.
- Manage projects both with internal stakeholders and external vendors, actively communicating on project timelines, budget, deliverables
- Coordinate with partners across Sony Pictures Entertainment and contribute to cross-functional teams with multiple stakeholders
Genre Landscape & Trends
- Leverage primary and secondary research and data sources, including performance data and social analytics, to evaluate genre landscape & content trends
- Generate strategic insights on genre and content trends to futureproof creative strategies
- Represent genre expertise internally – design a roadmap of projects and deliverables to proactively communicate genre insights as a vital, trusted resource for senior leaders
- Enhance understanding of the competitive landscape
- Produce regular performance reporting and create additional custom analyses as necessary for SPT across Video Game Adaptations, Horror, and Action
- Maintain a familiarity with entertainment landscape/industry trends
Communication
- Design best-in-class deliverables that concisely and effectively communicate insights
- Clearly articulate and translate complex, data-driven insights into crisp, actionable takeaways
- Develop strategic insights and communicate those to creative teams and to senior leaders
- Present findings to key stakeholders including senior leadership, development, current programming, marketing/PR, as well as to EPs, production companies, etc.
- Strong presentation skills, able to tell data narratives that are strategic, succinct & visual, with a clear POV, to increase engagement & adoption of insights & data across the business
Team Leadership
- Collaborate closely with team members to provide holistic insights
- Establish close, effective relationships with creative, marketing, and partners across Sony
- Partner with broader data analytics teams as needed for larger scale projects and advanced analytics
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in media and entertainment research, market intelligence, data analytics, and/or business strategy or consulting
- Passion for television & video games!
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and tell clear, concise stories with data
- Expert understanding of TV landscape, including linear networks, digital platforms, and emerging media platforms, as well as of the TV production business model
- Experience with Nielsen Ratings (NNTV, NPower, SVOD Content Ratings), Ad Intel, Fast Affiliates and with digital (AVOD, VOD, SVOD etc.) viewership measurement; experience with Luminate, Studio Systems, Ampere are a plus
- Experience with social and YouTube measurement to report on social campaign performance, identify trending content and audience behaviors and familiar with tools like Talkwalker, Tubular, and TikTok analytics
- Familiarity with or fluency in managing qualitative and quantitative primary research projects
- Experience working with Creative Executives a plus
- Experience working with large data sets
- Proficiency with analytical tools like Tableau and in Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Confident and self-motivated; able to own projects and execute them at a high level
- Able to distill and effectively communicate complex information clearly and concisely
- Advanced writing skills and ability to synthesize information and tell stories with data
- Skilled at data visualization and creating impactful presentations and deliverables
- Exceptional organization, time management, and project management skills
- Confident presence – strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening)
- Flexible, collaborative personality, quick learner, and strong, proactive work ethic
- Self-starter with passion, energy, enthusiasm, curiosity, and a growth mindset
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in the fields of Marketing, Communications, Economics, Psychology, Social Sciences, Data Science, or related fields
