Role Summary
The Vice President, GFO, Global Accounting, Group Consolidation & Reporting and Corporate Functions, is accountable for leading SPE’s group consolidation and reporting agenda and the line of business close for SPE’s Corporate Functions. The role owns the accurate, timely, and compliant accounting, close, consolidation, disclosure, executive reporting, and Sony Corporation submissions for SPE’s consolidated financial results and Corporate Functions financial activities, while ensuring alignment with SPE accounting policies, reporting requirements, and control standards.
The role is responsible for turning wider SPE priorities into action across the close, consolidation, and reporting process. This includes aligning priorities within and across Lines of Business, GFO teams, and service delivery partners; improving consistency, quality, controls, and efficiency; leading transformation initiatives; and resolving complex reporting, control, and governance issues.
The Vice President is responsible for setting performance expectations, developing capabilities and succession planning for the team, while partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Technology, Legal, Sony Corporation, and external service providers to deliver SPE’s objectives.
Lines of Business
Group Consolidation & Reporting is responsible for SPE’s Sony Group close submission and consolidated financial reporting processes, including coordination with all other Lines of Business, review and interpretation of consolidated results, management and executive reporting, and financial submissions and disclosures required by Sony Corporation. The function also provides governance over consolidation-related systems, data, controls, and process transformation across the end-to-end reporting model.
SPE’s Corporate Functions include shared cost areas such as Finance and Accounting, Information Technology, Legal, People & Organization, Procurement, and other enterprise support functions. The Corporate Functions accounting team provides accounting governance, close oversight, and reporting support for these areas, including facilities accounting, SPE lease processing, and the completeness, accuracy, and control of lease accounting across SPE.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Governance
- Own delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial reporting for SPE, including submissions and disclosure forms required by Sony Corporation and reporting to SPE executive management.
- Lead governance of the close and consolidation process, including coordination with Lines of Business and GFO teams, consolidation review, balance sheet and cash flow review, reporting packages, and resolution of significant reporting matters.
- Own financial accounting, reporting, controls, and governance activities for SPE’s Corporate Functions. Ensure accurate accounting for executive compensation, payroll-related transactions, leases, fringe benefits, pension and post-retirement obligations, and other significant Corporate accounting activities.
- Maintain a strong SOX and internal control environment for the close, consolidation and reporting, including clear review standards, audit readiness, issue escalation, and timely remediation of significant control or reporting matters.
- Serve as the senior escalation and decision point within scope for complex accounting, consolidation, disclosure, reporting, data, and control matters, partnering with technical accounting and senior leadership as appropriate.
- Ensure consolidation and reporting activities align with SPE accounting policies, applicable IFRS requirements, corporate reporting expectations, and established governance routines.
Strategy Execution & Business Alignment
- Lead execution of GFO and enterprise priorities across Group Consolidation & Reporting and Corporate Functions, translating strategic objectives into coordinated plans, measurable outcomes, and accountable delivery.
- Provide executive-level insight on both SPE’s consolidated and Corporate Functions, financial results, reporting risks, close performance, significant balance sheet and cash flow movements, and emerging issues requiring leadership attention.
- Act as a senior interface with Sony Corporation accounting stakeholders and SPE executive management on consolidated financial results, reporting requirements, inquiries, and issue resolution.
- Drive alignment across Lines of Business, Corporate Reporting, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Technology, Legal, and GFO teams to support timely decisions and enterprise reporting outcomes.
Transformation & Operating Model Leadership
- Drive the continued evolution and consistent application of the corporate close and reporting operating model across SPE, including interaction models, review protocols, feedback mechanisms, governance routines, and service delivery expectations.
- Lead initiatives to simplify, standardize, optimize, automate, and improve consolidation, reporting, controls, and close processes, supporting Global Close objectives and sustainable cycle-time improvement.
- Scale effective use of internal and outsourced service delivery, including KPI/SLA governance, operational transparency, accountability, workload allocation, and escalation management within scope.
- Provide executive sponsorship and business leadership for consolidation and reporting technology, data, and automation initiatives, including SAP S/4HANA, BW/BPC, Tango, Cadency, analytics, and related solutions as applicable.
- Ensure system, data, process, and control changes are governed end to end and support accurate, efficient, and scalable financial reporting.
Organizational Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead the Group Consolidation & Reporting and Corporate Functions organization through senior leaders and professionals, setting priorities, performance expectations, decision rights, and accountability for delivery.
- Drive organizational design, workforce planning, resource optimization, succession planning, and capability development aligned with the future-state operating model.
- Develop leadership capability and technical depth across consolidation, reporting, controls, systems, and transformation.
- Foster a culture of accountability, constructive challenge, transparency, inclusion, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
Enterprise Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Represent Group Consolidation & Reporting and Corporate Functions and GFO in senior governance, reporting, transformation, operational, and service delivery forums.
- Lead resolution of complex cross-functional matters affecting financial reporting integrity, controls, disclosures, close performance, systems, data, or operating model effectiveness.
- Build effective partnerships with senior business leaders, regional and global stakeholders, Sony Corporation, and external service providers.
- Ensure clear, timely, and transparent communication of financial and operational matters, risks, decisions, and required actions.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required.
- CPA, Chartered Accountant, MBA, or equivalent recognized qualification preferred.
- 12–15+ years of relevant accounting, consolidation, financial reporting, controllership, or shared services experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
- Experience leading senior professionals and multi-layered teams in a complex, global or multi-region organization.
- Public accounting and media / entertainment industry experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of accounting principles, consolidation, financial reporting, disclosures, controls, and compliance requirements, including IFRS.
- Strong understanding of corporate close, consolidated financial statements, management reporting, SOX controls, audit readiness, data governance, and operational governance.
- Experience with complex ERP, consolidation, and reporting systems; SAP S/4HANA, BW/BPC, Tango, SAC, Cadency, or similar systems preferred.
- Ability to leverage data, analytics, automation, and technology-enabled solutions to improve accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and decision support.
- Strong understanding of outsourced service delivery, KPI/SLA governance, global process standardization, and service delivery accountability.
